Round Up

Bit behind on these, apologies. Unsurprisingly the run was halted at Credenhill SC. Have we ever won there? Answers on a postcard to: Acorns, PO Box 1, Notbloodylikelyshire.

Hmmmm Beer

Once more a visit to the Barrels to play Lost Heads. Acorns knocked out a decent third leg to set up a target for the home team to chase, but the final score was close.

Lost Heads 302, Acorns 311

Home Win 2

Steady if unspectacular win at home contiunes Acorns good start.

It went down to the wire but Westend held out and take top spot in Section 3. Acorns came in second with a close win at the Black Lion.

Tight At The Top

Back to winning ways on a rare Thursday evening outing. Results elsewhere keep things very tight in Section 3, with Woolfy's Pack beating Westend. It's the final countdown (baba baa baaa, baba ba ba baa...)

Acorns 272, Richmond Northend 255

Tuesday 31 July 2012

ALERT! Game moved to Thursday

Due to Hereford United playing a friendly on Friday night, Addison's is going to be closed until after the game (9.15 at earliest). Rob has re-arranged with Richmond Northend for the game to take place this Thursday night (2nd).

The Run(way) Ends

Acorns travelled to Credenhill SC and ended up with a bit of a tonking. Once again the alley, which once formed part of RAF Credenhill but was decommissioned along with the Vulcan bombers it was build to serve, seemed to be our undoing. Looks like we're going to be free on the 17th after all.

Acorns Still Top

Yet again, a good night and score, this time against the other main challengers in the section. Still three games to go and from what Westend said, it's currently all even at the top but they still have a game in hand. All to play for so let's not get ahead of ourselves. Everyone OK for the play-offs?

Acorns 271, Westend 251

There May Be Trouble Ahead

It's all going far too well for the more doomsayer-ish amongst us. A very good night at home gave Acorns their highest score of the summer by some margin. Still top of the league but still plenty of missing results elsewhere, particularly Westend who we have at home next.

Acorns 279, The Con Men 239

Herdsmania

A good night at said hostelry for another win. Magic. No, I mean it, there really was magic.

Herdsman 229, Acorns 266

Wednesday 4 July 2012

Stick

Can we stop now? At time of writing we are top of the league following another home win. To be fair, all but the top two teams have results yet to come in so it may be a false position (and luckily there isn't a team called the Aardvarks). A source informed me that the captain had a disappointing night, but I'm not one to spread rumour. Oh, sorry.

Acorns 243, Seven Up 224

High Scoring Alley

Well, high scoring from everyones point of view apart from your humble scribe. Mr Edwards took the standing high score with an excellent 56 and the team managed their highest total of the season to date. JC, in charge for the evening, ruled with a rod of iron and brought home the bacon.

Return To Winning Ways

Finally a win. Great header from Carroll but missed several of the other goals because there was a game of skittles going on or something.

Sweden 2 (Mellberg 49, 59), England 3 (Carroll 23, Walcott 64, Welbeck 78)

Welsh Club Woe

Acorns lose a third game on the trot to a decent score from Westend.

Pipped At The Post

A close game finished with Woolfy's last player requiring a spare, which was duly delivered for the win. Steady scoring from the Acorns but a lack of spares made all the difference. The table after four games looks pretty tight with no team staying unbeaten.

Acorns 252, Woolfy's Pack 257

Monday 28 May 2012

Oh Dear

Not so much the 'A' team as The A-Team. The four man unit were unable to hold off the sheer weight of opposition numbers despite a spirited rearguard action. Sadly rain could not stop play and, as far as we know, the Duckworth-Lewis method does not apply.

The League Table Does Not Lie

We are top of the league, though somehow (at time of writing), the league table shows all teams played 1, three teams having won, 5 teams lost. I believe the modern parlance is WTF? Answer below *

Seven Up 217, Acorns 229

* Woolfy's Pack actually won but the table shows a loss. This is irrelevant to our league position though, as the alphabet is, once again, our friend.

Tuesday 1 May 2012

Next Winter - Revised

I was a bit too quick with the line-up for next winter season. The play-offs results have now gone up so it's Lost Heads staying in Div 3 (Barrels), not Woodpeckers.

Legionaires - Black Lion

Herdsman - Herdsman No.2

Woolfy's Pack - Credenhill Social Club
Westend - Welsh Club No.2

Wednesday 18 April 2012

Next Winter Line-up

All the results are in and the final positions are available on the league website (we're 8th). So next winter season, in no particular order, we play:

Busbars - Golden Lion
Credenhill 'B' - Credenhill Social Club
Dead Men Walking - Addison's Bar
GWRSA 'C' - GWRSA Club No.1
Lads Club Loyals - Lads Club No.1
Lost Heads - Barrels
M & B Sags - Saracen's Head
Military Tees - Military Club No.2
Phoenix Nights - Cotterell Arms
Rafateers - Lads Club No.2
Richmond 'A' - Richmond Club No.1
Shop Assistants - Welsh Club No.2
Whitecross 'B' - Whitecross Tennis Club

So that's something to look forward to.

Monday 2 April 2012

Final Flourish

Quite a turn around for the final game with plenty of spares and every leg in the 90s. We only missed the highest away score by 3 (which Whitecross 'B' got early in the season against some team called the Acorns?) That leaves us 8th in the table and even with missing results elsewhere we should be no lower than 9th.

Dead Men Walking 344, Acorns 378

Ups and Downs

Just in case anyone didn't know (I didn't), according to the official website the promotion and relegation has changed this year and it's 3 up/3 down. So by my reckoning that's that, we're Div 3 next season.

Monday 26 March 2012

Bill Preece Memorial Cup (Pairs)

Congratulations to Messrs Cole & Edwards who are through to the quarter finals of the pairs.

Quarter Final: Wednesday 18th April

D Cole & M Edwards v A & J Dallow

End Of Season Meal

Yes, it's that time of year again. Good Friday (April 6th), at Razbari, Whitecross Road. The averages, the spoon and rumour has it the Golden Boot?

* Table booked for 8.30, meeting in the Brit 7-7.30 for appetisers.

The Streak Continues

Not a winning streak, the other kind. Both sides struggled to get going but a 99 leg from Lost Heads made all the difference. The alley didn't want to give anything away with every pin hard earned. Last game next week, away at home, and not quite safe from the drop yet...

Acorns 302, Lost Heads 331

Thursday 22 March 2012

Thanks Dave

Captain Bob was under great pressure to avoid relegation this season

Whitecross Loss

As someone who carefully picks which games I deign to attend, I missed this one. A magic wardrobe that opens out into an enchanted skittle alley. Or something like that. You can tell I've had no information about this one can't you?

Whitecross 'B' 312, Acorns 308

Monday 12 March 2012

CSI: Hereford

The date: Friday 9th March 2012
The place: Addison's bar, Hereford United Social Club
The motive: Unclear
In what appears to be an unprovoked attack, the captain's first ball (reports from the scene have not confirmed which leg), was intercepted. Authorities are currently working on a 'lone footman' theory. The perpetrator has been identified by at least 11 eye witnesses but cannot be named for legal reasons. Under questioning he was evasive and appeared embarassed. This is unlikely to save him from what is expected to be a lengthy period of piss-taking.

Bill Preece Memorail Cup (Pairs)

Round 5: Wednesday 21st March

Hereford Snooker Centre

D Cole & M Edwards v A Brooks & M Thomas

300

Nothing to do with the clothes-light historical(ish) epic of the same name, but a score we failed to hit once more. Another poor night, this time out at Credenhill where we just couldn't seem to get the rub of the green. I think the near zero chance of a cushion penalty may have been off-putting. That's one wide alley.

Credenhill 'B' 322, Acorns 299

A Good Start

First night at the new alley and a promising start. Good omens handed down by Mr Edwards as he chucked the first ball down for a flopper. Some took a little longer to adjust (no finger pointing here). All this and Butty too.

Acorns 343, Military Tees 312

Ooof

Not a good night at the Buck, including probably the lowest score for a leg this reporter has ever seen. Dire.

Taylor Lane Front Pin Cup

Just realised I'd missed the match report from the Taylor Lane Front Pin Cup Quarter Final game at the Buck two weeks ago. I can only apologise for this oversight, which I will make every effort not to repeat. Hopefully this belated entry will make up for any inconvenience caused to loyal readers. We lost.

Barton 247, Acorns 232

Cole & Edwards March On

Dave & Mark are through another round of the pairs so it's on to round 5 on the 21st March, venues yet to be announced. That's the last 16. Or 32 strictly speaking. 16 pairs I should have said. Sorted.

Tuesday 14 February 2012

Another Win

And that's four on the trot, leaving Acorns just outside the top four. Probably fair to say that Woodpeckers had a bad night, Acorns winning by a good margin without a high total. Another away match next at the Buck.

Woodpeckers 290, Acorns 312

Monday 6 February 2012

Acorns Bow Out

Another good result and it's goodbye to The Plough, at least until the final game of the season when we're back to play Dead Men Walking. JC took the plaudits and Bob Jones the final ball. Two away games now, so Addison's (that's the HUFC social club's bar), isn't until the 24th.

Acorns 347, Richmond HUSC 317

Monday 30 January 2012

Win at Railway Club

Round 4: Wednesday 15th February

Bowling Club

P Leader & S Hughes v D Cole & M Edwards

Tuesday 24 January 2012

Yay

Home sweet home(!), victory at last. Unrecognisable from recent weeks with decent scores all over the board. Acorns were left a respectable final leg target by Herefordians but signed off with a flourish, just 1 short of the ton.

Acorns 356, Herefordians 331

Boo

The mincepie overdose continued to cause havoc with the Acorns, going down for the 3rd time in a row on their traditional festive slump. In the end it was close as we dragged Richmond A down to our level on their final leg.

Quarter Final, Wednesday 1st February

Barton v Acorns @ The Buckingham

Happy New Year

Hopefully not starting the year as we mean to carry on. Not great scoring, though Mr Other on one of his occasional games was one of the exceptions and the captain put in a typically well crafted spare.
